Does your home contain asbestos?
-
What it is?
Asbestos can be a very dangerous substance when disturbed. It was used very widely across Canada as a fire-resistant material found in building supplies. By the 1980s asbestos became banned from use due it its carcinogenic effects – it was proven to contribute to cancer in the lungs and throat if inhaled for a long period of time.

Flooring - vinyl asbestos tiles, sheet vinyl flooring, and floor leveling compound

How To Check?
Testing for asbestos requires a small piece of the material be sent to a laboratory for viewing under a microscope. The piece does not need to be very big, usually about the size of a dime, and most of the time the sampling location can be hidden behind a light cover or in the back of a closet. The hard part is knowing what and where to sample, as well as how to properly protect yourself while disturbing the material. We recommend you hire a professional testing facility for this.

Final Clearance Report
With safety being our top priority, we perform air sampling for asbestos fibres for the purpose of complying with the Alberta Health and Safety Occupational Exposure Limit. Air samples are taken prior to the start of the work (background samples), during the abatement activities (on a daily basis), and upon completion of the job (before the enclosure is dismantled). All air monitoring is conducted by a third party Hygienist Company while following the methods specified in the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation (NIOSH Method 7400).
